Coaching and Mentoring in Requirements Engineering

There are many approaches to coaching and mentoring and the line between them is often blurred. In general, each is concerned with developing some specific skill or achieving some goal. We offer a workable definition of each term.

Coaching
– A coach can be someone who works with people to help them bring out latent skills and to help them to utilise their existing skills and knowledge to realise their own solutions and to achieve their goals. The coach provides the stimulus, creates the right environment, and generally acts as a catalyst.

Mentoring
– A mentor implies someone who advises someone less experienced in a particular area or discipline, passing on the benefit of their experience, advising on pitfalls and shortcuts to success.

In practice there can be considerable overlap, with the two approaches being used interchangeably as and when necessary.

Capiro can initially help our client to determine which of the above two approaches should be used or predominate. Our approach is, above all, pragmatic.

We offer coaching and and mentoring in all of our specialisms.
