Step 8 - Benefits Realisation
The benefits should have been described in the business case. Although this is a fairly common process in organisations these days, assessment of achievement of the benefits is not. The business case should define when benefits will be realised. Note that benefits are typically realised as a series of cash flows appearing at predictable points following the delivery of the project products.
