Step 3 - Stakeholder Analysis and Team Building
Stakeholder Identification
Having identified the real problem, we turn our attention to discovering whose problem this is. Our business analysts and consultants can help you create an effective approach to stakeholder identification, analysis and management.
In any requirements initiative it is vital that all stakeholders are identified. To miss one could well guarantee that your requirements will be incomplete or will contain hidden conflicts.
Stakeholder Perspectives and Goals
It is important that we have a clear picture of the stakeholders, who they are, what their goals and perspectives are and how critical each stakeholder is to the project.
This is the time to checkout stakeholder goals; are they conducive to the realisation of the project goals and are do any of them conflict with each other? This is where the business analysts may need to rely on arbitration skills. It is not always easy to resolve conflicting goals but if we do not do it now it will even more difficult when we get to the more detailed requirements. Capiro can provide experts in goal analysis.
A favourite technique at this stage is the workshop. Capiro can provide training, coaching and mentoring for workshops and can also supply experienced workshop facilitators.
Team Building
Our consultants can also advise on the most effective approaches to building teams for effective requirements engineering. Our approach is to ensure that teams either contain not only business analysts but also subject matter experts, developers and testers - a multi disciplinary team (MDT). Such a team can become highly motivated and demonstate great morale. We will also describe an extended team structure, ensuring that all stakeholders are effectively but efficiently represented. Finally, we will demonstrate how to continue our general approach of close liasion with project management. Capiro can advise on whether to use formal or agile approaches and can provide business analysts and agile experts as appropriate.
